Traveling Tails

Traveling Tails Transport Program started in October 2020 as a new life-saving program for Humane Society, Tennessee Valley. This program enables us to transport at risk animals from East Tennessee to animal shelters across the country in an effort to save more lives.

The organizations that receive our animals, called destination shelters, have such effective spay/neuter programs that when their cages are empty they contact us to transport adoptable animals to them. It’s the perfect partnership because we see an abundance of animals in need from our partner shelters right here in our own backyard.

The goal of the new transport program is not just to move animals, but to create a network of source and destination shelters to save more lives. All of the destination shelters go through a detailed process to ensure they have the same value for the life of the animals we transport to them. Prior to transport all animals are up to date on vaccines and they receive a health certificate from a Veterinarian to cross state lines. We are fortunate to be able to provide this service to some of our source shelters because obtaining the requirements to transport an animal can be cost prohibitive.
